A MANIC MOVIE ABOUT AN OLD MAN, BAD MEMORY AND CRUEL MURDER
Alzheimer's disease is a chronic, neuro-degenerative disorder that causes the death of brain cells and leads to dementia— a progressive decline in social skills, mental faculties and behavioral abilities that disrupts a person's ability to function normally.
'ಗೋಧಿ ಬಣ್ಣ ಸಾಧಾರಣ ಮೈಕಟ್ಟು' (“Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu”, which means: ”Wheatish Complexion Moderate Build”) is a 2016 Kannada film that is based on the story of Venkob Rao (Anant Nag), an elderly, Alzheimer's-afflicted man staying in an old-age home. During a shopping trip with his son, Shiva (Rakshit Shetty), Rao goes missing.
A distraught Shiva desperately begins to search for his father along with Sahana (Sruthi Hariharan), Rao's doctor. Moving around aimlessly in the hustle-bustle of the city, Rao crosses paths with a couple of killers, who are in the process of disposing off the dead body of a public servant. That sets the stage for a kaleidoscope of comic and romantic moments, emotional and sentimental too, woven into the narrative.
Despite the freshness of the core theme, the film, written and directed by Hemant Rao in his debut foray, suffers from a somewhat contrived script and belabored screenplay. The three-act structure of the film is exceptional in the “setup phase”; it loses steam in the “confrontation phase” and completely goes off track with a cliched, potboiler-like “resolution phase”.
The entire cast has put up commendable performances. Achyuth Kumar has portrayed his “good Samaritan” role with consummate ease. The standout, 'show-stealing' performance though is that of thespian, Anant Nag, who is at his illustrious best.
The movie is good in its technical aspects too. Charan Raj's background score is superb; editing and cinematography are good too.
This masala flick is a good watch!
I rate the movie: 7.5 on 10!
